Long before Bearrootology Botanicals became a company, it began with a question: What is so special about this remarkable root called oshá?
As a Colorado native, I spent years exploring the mountains of Southwestern Colorado, learning the landscapes, observing the forests, and developing a deep respect for a plant that has been valued for generations.
What began as curiosity slowly became wonderment. The more time I spent in the mountains, the more I realized that oshá was more than a root. It was part of an ecosystem, a story, and a responsibility.
Learning the Land
For nearly three years I intentionally moved slowly. I wanted to understand the plant before building a business around it. I wanted to learn where it thrives, how it regenerates, and what responsible stewardship truly looks like.
Season after season, mile after mile, the mountains became my classroom.
I learned that sustainable harvesting begins with observation, patience, and respect. Taking only what the land can comfortably give while helping protect future generations of the plant.
The Walk That Changed Everything
One harvest season, after a long day deep in the Colorado backcountry, I faced a 9.62-mile walk out through rugged mountain terrain.
Tired, grateful, and carrying the lessons of the day with me, I realized that Bearrootology could never be only about products.
It had to be about stewardship. It had to be about education. It had to be about protecting the resource while sharing its story.
The Mission Today
Every scrub, tea, tincture, bath ritual, and future product begins with the same commitment: respect for the plant, respect for the land, and respect for the people who experience it.
Bearrootology Botanicals exists to bring a small piece of the Rocky Mountains into everyday life, while ensuring that the plant at the heart of the story continues to thrive for generations to come.
